Is “The Office” spin-off dead in the water?

Entertainment Weekly’s website is reporting that despite positive rumors early on about the proposed spin-off for NBC’s “The Office,” that plans for the new show have been shot down.

With news that Rashida Jones (who played Karen on “The Office”) was supposedly going to lead the project and that the network was going to premiere it following the Superbowl, fans of the would-be franchise  were optimistic. Entertainment Weekly now says that there is a legitimate source from inside the studio saying that the show “has essentially been shredded.”

There is a silver lining to this story as Greg Daniels, who is executive producer for “The Office,” is planning a sit-com vehicle for Saturday Night Live star Amy Poehler in place for the canceled spin-off.
